I am considering amd athlon 64 4000+ and the pentium 4 3.8 Ghz for using the Tradestation software. I was told by my tech friend that pentium is better for math caculations for the trading software. Is this true? What are the pros and cons? Thank you

I haven't been able to find any benchmarks so I can't tell ya for sure, but I'd feel safter getting the A64 4000+, over the 3.8ghz P4, as high end prescotts are very very difficult to keep cool. I had to go to water cooling to keep my 3.4ghz prescott from overheating..I can't say for sure about this either, but are you sure that program needs such a high end CPU?

Tradestation says to get the fastest cpu possible. If I knew that I could get away with a cheaper cpu I would. There is no way for me to know how this cpu will perform for this application.

All I can really suggest is to find some other people running that program, and ask them what they use, google turns up no helpful information.
