Which is the better of these two deals?

I'm going to college next month and I need a laptop. I will be doing mostly internet, programming, spreadsheet, DVDs. No video/photo editing or games. I'll be a computer science major so I need performance but I'm not willing to spend much more than $500.

With mail in rebates and "instant savings" the prices are much lower than what the website advertises.

First option: Acer Turion 64 ML-32--Cost:$500

Second option: Acer Pentium M 735A--Cost:$400
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer-Asp...atOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Basically I want to know if the 1st option is really worth the $100 difference, or if I'm better off getting the 2nd option and upgrading (more memory for example). Unless anyone has better suggestions I thought these were pretty good deals.

Thanks in advance,

I'd go with the Pentium M - unless 64 bit support means anything to you...it's a 1.7 gigahertz dothan with 2 meg L2 cache. I'd get that one and spend the $100 difference on a 1 gig ram stick...
