Couldn't there be issues wit such heavy heatsinks?
Good question! I've addressed this several times, here at AnandTech, in different posts.

Let's keep this one rudimentary! If you'll pardon the pun, maybe it will sink in ... ;)

Premium HSFs are heavier these days and WILL get even heavier in the future!

Why is this? Everyone is trying to beat the Tuniq Tower 120!

Could there be issues? YES! Weight and size...

Will this extra weight and size break your mobo? NO WAY!

Will this weight and size break cheap plastic HSF retaining rings? YOU BET! Happens all the time!

Why does the Scythe "VTMS" mount suck? It uses the cheap plastic retaining ring on your mobo...

What's so great about the Tuniq Tower 120 mount? You can throw the stock retaining ring in the trash!

Proof of concept? Here you go!

Definitely under normal conditions (aka sitting on the floor) there should be no problems, however, if you're hauling you computer all over town I might be a little more worried and maybe even take off the heatsink before transporting.
Waste of 'breath', my friend!

Anyone that would transport a computer in an upright position is a fool anyway, you know? ;)

Hmm, these seem to contradict. What am I missing?

I don't really consider the cheap plastic HSF retaining ring that comes with mobos (usually held on by cheap plastic push-pins) to be part of the mobo. That's what breaks -- not the mobo itself -- and the fix is to buy a metal retaining ring.

Scythe sells those metal mount kits to fix the cheap stock plastic ones that their crappy universal mounting systems break!

Maybe sunbeam just got lucky w/ the design. The Ultra-120 is much more pleasing visually.
One last comment, and I'll leave it alone (until mine is delivered)...

I've always said, "SunbeamTech (aka Tuniq) accidentally made the best HSF on the market, and was NOT prepared for it's success." No matter... it's still the best -- and highly coveted!

Secondly, aesthetically speaking, the Tuniq Tower 120 looks like a jug off a Harley chopper sitting on your mobo. That thing is just bad ass!!!

Some ppl like this, some ppl don't, but you cannot deny that its "dickie pee-pee" design puts it in a league of its own... ;)

I dont think anyone has actually dissed its performance. It is kinda funny that Sunbeam accidentally made the best hsf to date and then their machine promptly broke down. ::chuckle::

CEO: Man, the sales staff is telling me we got a runaway hit on our hands with this new HSF. Tell the factory to speed up production! We'll make millions!

Staff Assistant: Um...boss? The machine just broke and repairs is gonna take months according to maitenance.

CEO: Crap!!
