Rowing is a lot of fun, but more hassle than getting on a bike or going for a jog.

If you have spare time though, it is great.

You could have a joy-ride on a bike at 3 MPH on flat terrain and do almost no effort at all. Or you could try to ride at high speeds or very hilly terrain. Two completely different things.

You could chug along jogging at slower than walking pace. Or you could mix in intervals of running or even sprinting. Two completely different things.

Thus either form of exercise could be better cardio depending on how you do them.

i ride my skateboard for "cardio" - its good exercise and fun. of course if you hit a rock or a chunk of sand or something you're screwed. but we all know how road rash impresses the ladies...

Cardio is all about heart rate. So both biking and jogging are about the same cardio-wise, it just depends on how much effort is put into it.

Personally, I bike. My knees have already taken too much abuse.

biking at 13.5 - 15mph for 1.5 hours is great cardio. I'm dropping 2 - 3 lbs a week right now doing a combo of bicycling, aerobics and better diet. Went from 170 to 150 in about 7 weeks :)

Define "better." What burns the most calories in the same amount of time? That's biking. What's better for you in the long run, IMO, is biking. I have a trail near my apartment that I can ride for many miles and I actually enjoy it. So, not only is it better for my knees, but it's more enjoyable, so I keep doing it, which is better for my heart.

Get a cadence of about 80+ rpm on a bike and you will be good to go. I was never in better shape than when I biked 20+ miles a day, 6 days a week. I jog now though.

As someone previously stated, either or will work though if you have bad feet or knees I suppose cycling will make more sense. I prefer swimming though which is a complete body workout.

Well, you basically just stated that biking is better for burning calories and less impact.
Seems like you favor biking so it doesn't matter how I define better :p

They're all beneficial cardio. I prefer jogging. Yeah it can be hard on the joints but if you've been conditioned your whole life to jogging like me, then it's no problem. Swimming is a great upper body workout. Biking is good for quad/butt exercise.
