Which is the better $299. 19" ?? (Samsung 955df ---or--- Viewsonic A90f ??)

I already purchased the Viewsonic to replace my 6.5 yr. old Panasonic 17" that just recently died .

There are two things about the Viewsonic I don't like .

1 --- When the monitor is warmed up & you have your screen stretched/zoomed correctly & then shut it off for 10 or more minutes & then turn it back on , it takes 10 to 15 minutes to get back to that setting as the screen shrinks back into place . (I don't know if all monitors do this)

2 --- I run the monitor at 1280x1024 (75hz) ........... At this resolution , 85hz is not available ............ 85hz becomes available at 1280x768
I want my 85hz at 1280x1024 ! (will the Samsung run at this res. ?)

Just wondering , for those who have seen & experienced both monitors , which is the better $299. 19" monitor ?

I still have about a week to return to BestBuy & exchange for the Samsung but stopped by here for opinions first .
Thanks for any advice offered 🙂

1) Have no problems with the 'warmup' of the monitor that you are referring to.

2)The Samsung tops out at 80Hz for the res. you want.

I have the 955DF.

CorCentral, I would go with the Samsung. Viewsonic makes some great monitors, but between those 2 I like the 955df. I think it has a crisper image and you'll be all set with 1280x1024 @ 80hz. Anything 75hz+ should not strain the eyes. Good Luck with your decision!

I just got the 955df it is a good monitor for the price. A few caveats I have experienced though. The monitor seems to be relatively blurry in the upper left corner. Not to the point where you can't see things, just enough to make it annoying. I can't make it any better with the monitor settings, there always seems to be some moire in that corner. Also, you have to do 1280x960 to get 85hz(for some reason, 75hz looks really bad on this monitor) refresh to work on this monitor. They will not allow you to run the monitor outside of the reccomended refresh rate like some can. Other than that, the image is sharp, colors good. I got mine for $298 retail with tax and a 3 year service plan.

I have been recommending the Samsung 955df for all my customers, but now one seems to be dying...🙁

They say they can't even see the cursor anymore. This is the first problem I have had with them, but it doesn't make me feel any better. 🙁

<< Samsung! Do not buy a Viewsonic. >>

That is far too general to be believed. All the Viewsonics I have ever owned have been great! So have the Samsungs! (excluding one, see above)

I just purchased a Viewsonic PF790 19 inch aperature grille at a computer
show for $338.00. This is my second Viewsonic monitor and my first one is close to 7 years old and the brightness has never been adjusted. It is a PT770 17 inch.

Viewsonic's very reliable.

dude, forget about both of them. i picked up the 955df from bb several months ago & was sorely disappointed - the model they are selling now is very different from the display model they had at the store i went to, and not nearly as good. i took it back after a week & ordered the 900nf from newegg. the 900nf has gotten tons of great press from reviewers and users alike. i couldn't be happier with it - truly flat, highly configurable, & can support very high resolution modes. it's def. one of the centerpieces of my setup.

good luck!

joe
