Yep, currently the Inspiron 8000 is the fastest, though I'm waiting for IBM to get off their collective arses and put a GeForce Go in an A-Series ThinkPad, which could give the Dell a run for its money. Currently though, the Dell is clearly the fastest.

I got a Dell Inspiron 8000 about a week ago and it is great. My biggest complaint is the HD really slows stuff down when it is being accessed. If is looking to buy an Inspiron 8000 I STRONGLY recommend you buy it with the least memory and HD and upgrade them later. I saved a LOT of money by getting it with 128MB of ram and a 10GB HD. Right after getting it I went to MWave and bought the 20GB HD (which happenes to be the same exact drive Dell would have put in) for about $20 less than Dell wanted to upgrade it to a 20GB. I also went and bought a 128MB SODIMM at Best Buy for $40 which was a LOT less than Dell wanted for it.

Just a little tip I thought I would share.

BTW, the Geforce 2 GO is great! ;)

I have the I8000 with the 32gig IBM 5400 drive. I would recommend that. Like the others said, you can get ram cheap. Get 64 or 128. I would be careful about the 512mb of ram unless you really need it. I have read a number of posts on the Dell Forums and some of the people with the GeForce and 512mb of ram have been having shutdown problems. It is just my suspicion that this may be a problem. This is from people that bought the I8000 with the GeForce and also those who upgraded. Maybe it is just a few out of hundreds, but most people don't need the 512. I have 256 and it runs great. I also recommend that when you get it, get Norton Systemworks and run Speeddisk. That really helps the hard drive speed. Also, I am very happy with the SXGA screen. It is awesome. Also, get a second battery. You will be sorry if you don't.
