Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Optical 3.0a, to be exact

MX700 is cordless and has to be recharged. I would never deal with that.

MX-500 in my opinion... totally dominating shape and feel.... best ever.

but (in the past) crappy mouseware software makes it hard to recommend over something that always works (has good software) the MS explorer.

i have an explorer cause i can use all the buttons in games, with the MX-500 i couldn't (until a new mouseware came out)

I don't like the shape/feel of the Explorer, but if works perfect in games.
I love the feel of the MX-500 but it doesnt' work perfectly in games.

(again, not at the time i had it)

I still like my Mouseman Dual Optical (had Boomslang 2000 before this). If it ever decides to die on me I'll probably get a MX500.

logitech mx500.. best mouse i've ever owned

it's rugged, great fit, looks sexy and performs wonderfully. logitech has won me over

i've tried every mouse from various Microsoft Opticals to Boomslangs..
was not happy with how the boomslang held up.. starting deteriorating after not very many months

also, i must say a mx500 in conjunction with a Ratpadz GS (or regular) mousepad, is about the best mousing experience you'll ever have :)

depends how much you want to spend. for your basic mouse nothing beats the cheap microsoft optical wheel mouses. As the price goes up things start to get debatable. I myself have a logitech Cordless Freedom Optical which comes with their high end cordless keyboard and mouseman cordless optical mouse. The mouse is very good. The whole set has now been replaced with the cordless optical duo which my dad recently purchased, the keyboard is a bit updated, form 4 AAs to 2 AAs, but the mouse is almost identical. (higher refresh rate now i believe). If you want a keyboard/mouse combo this is probably the best buy there is these days, the mouse is available seperately though and it is highly recommended. Also logitech has now fixed all of their mouseware issues and the scroll works in games, etc...

The last version of Logitech mouseware I installed removed the Orientation tab and double-click speed customization in the mouse properties.

Reinstalled the drivers that came off the CD.

Hmm. I have a question so similar it may as well be as a reply to this post. Are optical mice, like the MX300 I have my eye on, really equipped to handle intensive FPS requirements? If there's any doubt, i'm sticking with the good ol' ball mouse with the tail! :)

Logitech MX-700.
Place on charge station/reciever when not in use, and you`ve got to be seriously lazy it you cant handle that.
The best mouse out. Cordless with no lag, comfortable.

The MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0a
I used this mouse, and i am not impressed with it whatsoever, it just seems so crap after using a MX700.

Razor BoomSlang.
Has had it time now, and people must learn to move on. Its not even optical, which means after a while, it`ll need cleaning.
By todays standards of mouse, like the MX 500/700, MS Explorer/Bluetooth, it sucks.

That's just not practical for the hardcore gamer unless the battery lasts for like 10hrs. Even that...i've played for upwards of 12hrs before, easily. So we're talking at least 15hrs of use before battery even begins to fade to make $50 worth it.

Oh and i'd still like an answer or three to my previous query :)

Malladine, im as hardcore as gamers get, and trust me, the mx700 wont run out of power half way though a game of Quake. It can last a couple of weeks of hardcore gaming. It only needs charging for 15mins for a days worth of use, so even if it does(although unlikely) run out of power half way through a game, im sure that you could take a 15minute break.

So 15mins charges it enough for unimpinged use for a full day? That's certainly impressive.

Hmm...

If you REALLY have a problem with the MX700 batt life...

Buy a pair or two of 1800 mAh nimh AA's and a charger...

Play the battery swap game. What does it take 10 sec to do a battery change?!

The MX700 is the best mouse hands down. Better than the MS flimsy stuff. Mouseware is OK. Most problems are attributed to PEBKAC. :p

AFAIK, the MX500 is the corded version of the MX700 so if you HATE messing with batteries and have other metaphysical dysfuntions with your HID's, then by all means! :p

Impressive charge times, curtacy of the aptly named, "rapid charging station".
