Which is the best fragmenting preventer? I can't find one.

Run a Novel box, you get ZERO fragmentation (ever) and files are exact bytes, so a 450byte file won't take up 16k or whatever your cluster size is.

Maybe MS will wisen up one day and adpot a far superior file system? err maybe not...

whats the best freeware defragger?

All other defraggers don't utilize the XP specific features (like prefetching, XP layout optimization etc.).
Only PerfectDisk and Diskeeper can read this files (eg. layout.ini in Windows/prefetch) and then put the files accordingly. (Eg. for a faster boot).

Dont even try to use stuff like Norton SpeedDisk (which works fine under 98) under XP.

even with norton speedisk 2003??

i didn't like xp's built in defrag, from what i remember it restarts everytimetheres a disc access

contig (command line defragger from sysinternals) is better than the crappy win2k defragger and diskkeeper.

wow, i really feel dumb now never knew there was more defragers than the Windows Defrager.....because there obvisouly are more defragers than the windows one i assume its a good thing to DEFRAG huh?
