which is the best cpu?

I know which one is the worst: Pentium, I think they topped out at 100MHz, at least the non-MMX kind. Now, Opteron is more of a server chip, different league, and by AMD X2 I hope you mean the Athlon 64 X2. And what do you mean by "best"? Highest performing, most efficient, best performance/price ratio, etc..

pentium's went all the way to 200mhz without MMX.

Best performing right now is anything based on the Conroe core (C2D, C2Q etc).

Well for price the pentium cant be beat! The 233mhz one with brand spanking new MMX technology! wow! is real cheap on ebay.

Almost; the last non-MMX Pentium was the 166 Mhz variety. The 200 Mhz MMX was the first MMX-capable Pentium, and went all the way up to the 233 Mhz version.:D

No, the last non-MMX Pentium is the 200mhz version. pentium MMX went from 150 all the way to 233.
