Which is the best 17" LCD out of these 3 16ms Panels?

NEC/Mitsu 1760NX
Hitachi CML174
Viewsonic VP171B

Which offers the best gaming and is the easiest on the eyes (high contrast i presume)?

I have to say...

I just got my 1760v today. Man, it is f#*%ing BAD@SS!!! No deadpixels, contrast is great, brightness is great and I have yet to notice significant ghosting.

These are all very subjective statements, but hey...That's my opinion. My vote is for the 1760V. I've read that the DVI input for the 1760NX isn't as good as the analog. So why spend more for it?

Goodluck deciding!

AFAIK you cannot buy the newest samsung and it is still not a 16ms lcd. Not that I think there is that much difference between a 16ms and a 20ms but since he mentioned gaming I am sure the fastest response time is his priority.

The 1760NX is $449/$455 White/Black with free shipping @ Newegg. I have one and so does a bud of mine. They are really nice. Couldn't be happier with it.

The newest Samsung is the 172T, and its been out for a couple months. I read a 17" LCD monitor shootout somewhere (can't find the link anymore) where they reviewed it and said the response time they measured was about 18 ms, and they recommended it as the top 17" model. If I can find the link, I'll make sure to post it here.

yeah, I forgot to check Newegg.

The 172T does not have a 16ms response time regardless of who said what 😉 Ive had all these monitors, and while I dont like to admit it, there is a slightly noticable difference between the response times. However, we do have to consider grey to grey response time which for gaming purposes is actually much more important than black to white. I have been using one of the LG Philips 16ms LCDs and it is a much different experience than the AUO 16ms panels.

However, if you are deadset on those three, I have slightly favored feelings to the NEC or the Hitachi. Both are great. The Viewsonic has dual analog inputs (I think) but has some issues with quality.

Chris, you say your using a LG Phillips 16ms LCD and its a different experience from the AUoptron ones, is it a good or bad different?

i havnt read the previous posts, so people might have gone over the features alraedy. I just bought the 171b, and wow! Before i bought an lcd, i did a lot of research, and was worried that games/movies wouldnt looks so good. With the 16ms response time and the digital input.....it looks awsome. I can tell when im playing certain games, but it still looks good. Im sure you know that it pivots, which i dont find my self using all that much as its a little bit of a hassle when you have 3 cables attached to the back. I love it, im glad i got it...

Arse, I think you can tell a little in certein games because the 171b doesnt have DVI.

Anyone here have the LG Phillips 16ms LCD? Its the LM170E01 I believe

I'll second that. I bought my NEC 1760V 1 month ago from Dell, and it never ceases to amaze me. Trust me it's the only way to go. If you still have any doubts, read this article.

Tomshardware review

One more thing, if I were you I'd buy it from Dell because of their reasonable prices and 30 day no-questions-asked return policy, just in case of dead pixels. Right now it looks like they only have the black versions of the 1760V and NX in stock.

Buy one from best buy, circuit city or some place like that, most online retailers will not take a monitor back if it has only one dead pixel or something like that, including newegg, where as bestbuy will take it back at no charge within 30 days whether or not it's perfectly fine.
