Which is more important?

If by art you mean painting and sculptures and poetry, then science is by far... but if by art you mean creativity, then they're equally important, because without creativity, science won't take you very far. I mean... someone had to be pretty creative to decide they could make a bunch semiconductors and electrons do work for us.

I think with the absence of technology we would adjust our lifestyles quite considerable. You would probably not work your efforts would be directed to farming or raising animals for your family to eat or barter with the other down the road. Without going into detail we would again be what we were 100's of years ago. So the question you are digging for is now that we have the technology are we better off than we were back then? I guess the answer lies in what you value. Is it possessions or the intangible like a sense of family or companionship? But I don't know if this is the "spirit" of the original question. Might be.

Technically, yes, I am a luddite. However, I don't oppose all technology, just technology that enables people to be lazier. Advances in medical research are always good, as are advances in agriculture. However, I think we could live without the electronics that consume our thoughts, and deaden our senses.

And yet here you are, on a computer wasting time on ATOT.

Finishing up my midterm paper for Euro Civ, not really wasting time, just taking a break between thought processes.

Excuses, excuses. So what technology are you against? TVs? Videogames? People use those to get away from stress as well. Microwaves? Electric ovens? Well, you might not mind spending 2-3 hrs cooking every meal, but i like the convenience that these technology affords me. Vehicles? Makes us lazy? As much as i hate driving, i would hate to have to bike 5 hours to work everyday.

Your arguement falls apart as, with the absence of the technology, people would not have jobs 5 hours away, you would not know this "convenience," and people would find other ways to relieve stress than plopping down in front of a television, and rotting away. I'm not for taking all this away, as we have it, and I use it. I'm just saying that the world would probably be a better place without them. Less stressed, healthier, more sociable people.

People would still be able to travel, albiet not as far, communicate, though not as fast, trade, though not with as many people, and do many other things of importance, without technology. It all depends on what you value in life.

A balance of each, it's really simple if you think about it. Everything would suck w/o art ie. no music, no pretty GUI ur looking at right now, same with sciences, they help people have a better standard of living, like curing dieseases, healthcare, ect ect.

I think science can be much more beautiful and enlightening than art ever could be. Look at crystal formations and leaf patterns, then look at a fractal pattern and try to calculate the chaos into order... I lost my interest in art when people started blending goldfish.
