Which is more common, NW 1.6a @2133 or @2400?

There doesn't seem to be more additional posts at Overclockers.com. They seem to be stuck at 37. I'm wondering if they are not getting the early overclocking norm of 2400mhz.

I myself am running stable @2208mhz. I have posted several times @2400mhz, but I do get some failures sometimes when running Prime95 or 3DMark2001.

Just wondering what the present consensus is.

TIA

Consensus? 🙂

P4 1.6As shipping now and in the future can't be poorer overclockers (they get better, not worse).

Sometimes it takes that site forever to update the database. I've also noticed there haven't been any new articles on Northwood overclocking in a long time, too.

just bought the 1.6a with the p4b266 and running at 145 fsb which is 2.32 ghz, cant go anymore, winblowz keeps crashing when i clock to 150 fsb, just my luck, my friend bought this with me and he got it to 153 fsb. 🙁
not all cpu can get to 2.4 ghz, just depends on your batch and some luck, guess mine top out at around 2.3 ghz which is still not bad

I can hit 150 fsb Prime95 stable at default cpu and ram voltage with my 1.6a. I have not tried to go higher because going from 2133 to 2400 only netted about a 10 fps difference in my benchmark testing. This may be a limit of the videocard I am currently running though, I have to wait and see if a GF4 Ti card will make a bigger difference between 2133 and 2400.

Like you, I am able to POST at 2400 and get into windows, but it isn't stable. Prime95 only runs for about 11 min and Counter Strike only runs for like a min then crashes.

At 2240, I'm fine, so I'm gonna have to start increasing it from there to find my limit.

Spydc:

My vcore @2133 is 1.60 volts.

My idle temp is 24 C.

My full load temp is 38 C.

Hope this helps 🙂

BTW, my mobo is the Asus P4B266-C using Bios 1002.

I can run stable at 150fsb but it takes 1.75vcore with my current power supply. I ordered a new 400watt Antec hoping to have enough 12v rail that it doesn't droop like it has been. I can hit 11.31 now on that rail @ 150fsb. I am thinking this chip (and my watercooler) might make 160fsb, but I will probably have to do the wire voltage mod. Maybe the new supply will let me run more stable at less vcore is what I am hoping.

I turned it down for now to 132fsb (mainly so i could run 3:4 memory timing - memory at 176) while I wait. My Sisoft memory scores were 2658/2532 ish. (Didn't write them down because I didn't run the test clean (fresh boot and all my TSR's off). My 3dMark is 8046 at 132fsb, and was 8221 at 150fsb. Big difference is that I am running 1.550 vcore and probably could run it at default, just haven't tried.

................edit..............
Added correct Sisoft values......🙂

Asus P4B266 BIOS V. 2005
P4 1.6A @ 2.5Ghz 155fsb - 1.575V

Ran Prime95 torture test for about 24 hours. Multiple runs of 3DMark2001SE. No hickups, perfectly stable. Idles at 29C, load at 45C

1.6a @ 2820 avc sunflower cooler...1.8v voltage, 36c idle/50c load and the 3dmark scores to prove it 😀.. runs the sisoft sandra burn in test for 10 loops but craps out in quake as soon as temp hits 47c 🙁 (i think i need better cooling or something)

this is my first overclock since my p3 450 doing 600Mhz...seems like i'm back in the thick of things 😎 w00t

now thats a huge woody..maybe because my name is the hnic 😉

What setup are you using? Ram, board, OS, and etc. What batch # is your chip?

Thanks

Gigabyte 8irxp...(reboot issues when fsb is over ~125Mhz... but great overclocker).
256MH Kingmax DDR333.
SL668 Malaysia 1.6a from newegg.
AVC Sunflower. ( with the thermal paste that came with it)

I can do 1.6A@2.4G easily (1.5V) on my P4S333, but like rgowen I have a GF3 Ti200 and noticed little performance gain from the 2.1-->2.4 jump (at least not at the resolutions I use). Also, I suspect my video card does not like the higher bus speed so I have backed off a bit to 2.34G for the time being.

Well, decided to try a different FPO batch NW1.6A.

This one ran straight up @2400 on my P4B266-C with the wire trick default setting of 1.7v.

Running Prime95 Torture Test for stability 🙂

BTW, I have Micron CAS2.5, can someone who is running @2400 share their memory timings, like 2-2-2-6 and whether you are using Turbo1 or Turbo2 modes and Auto or 1:1.

TIA

P4 1.6a @ 2400
(2) 256MB Crucial PC2100 @ 2-2-2-5 turbo1 and Auto (3:4 @ 800MHz QDR)

Okay. I don't get this. Why does my 1.6a run so damn hot compared to everyone else? Here are my current temps while running Prime95 for the past hour @133fsb (2.13GHz) 1.525v
Also have Mushkin pc2700 running at 177FSB = 354DDR
Board Temp: 22C
CPU Temp: 49C / (41C Idle)
Power/Aux Temp: 33C

I don't get it. The cpu temp is still that high when I run it at stock speed and voltage! Any clues? I have even tried removing the thermal pad and applying some silver thermal compound that I purchased from bestbuy (Antec Reference: Silver Thermal Compound), but I don't really see a difference.
