Which is hotter, Palomino (1.3GHz) or Tbird 850?

I would like to be able to downgrade the 7k fan I have, but in order to do this I need a CPU that produces as much or less than my current 850. Does anyone know if the new cores are cool enough? Thanks.

Palominos are cool but not that cool. A 1.2GHz Palomino is roughly as hot as a 1GHz T-Bird.

Just becuase you want to downgrade the fan doesn't mean that you need to downgrade your CPU as well. A Sunon or YS-Tech mid 20s CFM fan will cool a 1.4GHz T-Bird well enough. If you want way less noise I'd get an Alpha PAL8045 with a Panaflo fan on it.

The Paly is hotter, but with a decent heat sink, you should be able cool it sufficiently with a slower fan. What HSF is on your 850 now?

got a 1.2 palo, 7k rpm fan. idle i'm at about 30 degrees celsius, after average to above average use i'm at around 41 -45 degrees. hope it helps...

I have the FOP38, but its not the heat sink that I'm worried about. I have an old crappy case that doesn't have a rear fan. It does okay at with the 850, but I think if I go hotter the heatsink may not be able to counterbalance the crappy case.

Anyone know where I can find a good case, cheap w/o a PS? (I already have a good 300W one.)
