Ive got an old p200mmx lying around that im gonna turn into a SETI cruncher soon, just wondering if anyone knows which os would be faster 4 crunching WU's, Linux or Windows?
Depends on which version of Windows & which flaver of Linux you're thinking of using. Got something in mind?
I think Windows 2K & XP are comparable to some of the Linux OS's, SETI speed wise. 2K & XP process the VLAR WU's faster than the 9x versions, other than that they process about the same.
Win2K will yield better times than Linux. It is not because of the OS it is because the CLI for linux was written poorly and doesn't process as fast as it should.
The biggest differences you will notice are client specific, not OS specific.
Some clients for different OSs are built better than others.
Sure you want to do SETI?😉

WINE isn't inexorbically (sp?) linked to XF86. Most people think of it like that, but WINE is most certainly capable of running a windows command line program.
