I know neither can touch the merom, but how do they compare to each other? Specifically, how does my Turion 64x2 1.6ghz w/256kb compare to the equivalent of core duo? I kinda regret for not going for the 512kb version.
as those tests show, the core duo is easily better. BTW, the meroms didn't give as mush processor performance over the core duo as the conores did over the pentium D's. The battery life and heat is improved, but the multitasking performance is similar.
The only problem with Core Duo, as I see it, is Intel's Craptastic Graphics Accelerator. I hate it with a vengance and I'd take anything from ATI or Nvidia any day, just for the driver support. That said, unless the Turion X2 is significantly cheaper, I'd go for Core Duo.
