A quick question about which system would be faster at non game apps

A AMD XP Moble 2400+ (at stock speeds), Abit NF7-S V2 mb, with 256MBx2 Kingston value pc3200 ram

OR

AMD Sempron 2600+, Chaintech VNF3-250 mb, with 256MBx2 Corsair value pc3200 ram?

Thanks

I think kensai is right, but those moblie XP's overclock really well (null since you stated stock speed). I'm assuming you already own that RAM, as it makes no sense to buy 256MB sticks instead of 512MB

even if you overclock them both to the max -- the sempron will still come out on top

yeah and since the s754 has no dual channel, there is no need to get 2 sticks if you're actually buying them

So for the s754, it'd probably be better to get 1 stick of 512?

I've got the first rig, but with two sticks of 512MB ram in dual channel. And sorry for the dumb question, but what's the effect of dual channel?

I'm thinking of putting the second rig together for my brother, either that or sell him my old hardware:

AMD XP 1600+, Soyo Dragon+ mb, 256MBx2 generic pc2100 ram.

Any idea what a fair price would be fore that?

Dual channel essentiallly doubles your bandwidth by letting you transfer in 128bit chunks rather than 64bit chunks.

you dont have to worry about dual channel because the socket 754 platform doesnt support dual channel,if you want dual chanel you'll have to go for socket 939.
