Which is faster Klinux or Windows?

I'm building a new cracking box, I use Klinux and Windows. The other day I threw Klinux on my Duron box to see what it would do. Windows averages 3.34 keys while Klinus did 1.68. Is this normal? I thought since windows wasn't running Klinux would blow it away.
Now I am unsure whether to put Klinux or Windows on my new Celery 800. Anyone know what I can expect from Klinux on the 800?
Thanks,
Daz

Something's wacky there... The linux client and windoze clients are thankfully the same, speed-wise.

I may be wrong, but it seems to me (noting that you're only getting almost exactly on the nose, 1/2 the rate) that maybe there's a hardware recognition problem going on?

I remember when something happened with my Celly whereby suddenly it was only cracking at half the rate, out of the middle of nowhere, and after months of running just fine with Klinux (matching the expected keyrate as reported by the speed pages). I ended up swapping out the mobo and it went back to cracking just fine with the same KLinux disk. Now I'm finding that the swapped-out mobo is acting up, so I'm trying to deal with that... I know I have older vintage mobos, so... :(

Which version did you download BTW? You might want to try the newest one to make sure it supports your hardware better (since that's a Celly II which is basically P3-like but on the 66 bus).

I wonder if it would have something to do with me not turning off all, the hardware. I basically left the settings the same just booted with Klinux V.4 . I haven't got the 800 Chip yet, but I will give Klinux 4 a shot and see what it does.
Thanks,

I've run them on identical machines, one windoze one Klinux. Klinux outproduces windoze - every time.

Depending on the machine, I get a 100-200kkey/s improvement using KLinux instead of Windows.

I like the fact that I dont have to install anything or setup much. The only thing I wish it was on a Hdd, this way more blocks can be loaded for reserves. Would be nice to have it on a CD too, I have more Cds laying aroubd than floppys.

Almost OT but not quite, I have a quick question. I remember reading smoewhere that you could add a file to the klinux distro to set your ip etc at boot up so you would not have to manually type them in everytime. Anyone familiar with this?

Sounds familiar, but nothing I have seen recently. That would be really great though, would be excellent for restarts after a power outage. well at least with boards that are last state capable. Gonna have to see what Kilowatt has to say about this, I am not a Linux person so it would have to be something along the lines of plug and play for me.

Klinux ver 4 can accept a windows written .ini file if that would help.

As for the IP, ver 4 automatically looks for a DHCP server, and if it does not find one, you can easily assign the client machine one using netconfig.

As far as the title of this thread, Klinux is faster with RC5, but slower in OGR due to some differences in the Linux client. I run my crackrack machines with Klinux for RC5, and NT4 for OGR.

I had a machine crack at half the expected rate once. Ended up being an invalid jumper setting on the mobo of a P2 LX chipset machine. It had me scratching my head, but it was set for 5.5 multiplier instead of 4. I think the mobo defaulted back to a 2x multiplier.
