system is as follows

AMD 3700 sandiego @ 2.9Ghz
2GB G-Skill extreme series DDR400
Gigabyte K8N-SLi mobo
Radeon x1900xt 256
Hyper 580w type R PSU

i can either upgrade to a core 2 e6400 and overclock it, with 2 gig of ram etc sticking with my x1900xt, or i could upgrade to a 8800gts. but sticking with my current system

what upgrade would be the best one to go with ?

thanks

i'd do the C2D also, the x1900xt is still mid-high range GPU. wait it out for more options on DX10, people are still resolving issues on stability and games on the g80...

Your current parts still look good. Chill until the new round of Core2Duos, which should be around April 22nd (including a price drop). That way, you'll have better options, regardless of which component you'd like to upgrade.

thnaks for ur replies duudes. i think i gna go core 2 and wait for r600 to be released and also some propper dx10 benchies.

Defintily go for option core 2. It's the smart upgrade move now. Plus, as was already said, wait for more DX10 cards to come out. 2 isn't much of a selection.

Plus you know how to OC, so you will have your rig hummin'. Good luck with it.
