I'd have to disagree with you guys. There is no clear winner, both CPUs have their strengths and weaknesses.
A64s are better at gaming and compiling, but the P4 is better at encoding and rendering. It also has an edge in multitasking due to HT. I know people are quick to knock the P4 but it actually had it's uses.

Anandtech Athlon 64 review and you'll see performance is not as cut and dry as you seem to portray. 
 
No offence to you guys, but its so easy to jump on the P4 bashing bandwagon without acknowledging that it actually had some strengths as well. The Northwood based P4s were actually quite decent, but things started going downhill with Prescott.
