Well....??

Does it really make any diffrence which I get, as I heard that since the processors in the retail boxes are ususaly a bit older, and therefore maybe a bit easier to O'Clock as AMD has yet to 'Lock' the processor.

P.S. What the hell does it mean if you have a green or purple core, and is it really important if you have one over the other?? And how can you tell which core you have????

I say get OEM since dont the retail come with heatsink/fan? Then you can get a nice alpha on it and rock her way up.

get oem which is usually without hsf and get a Globalwin or Alpha to OC it instead,
oem is generally cheaper

Regardless of which type of T'Bird I get; OEM Or Retail--I am going ot buy a GlobalWIN Heatsink/fan combo to use to O'Clock. I am just wondering which version of the processor (OEM or Retail) might be easier to O'Clock, when you have the same speed for an OEM version or Retail????

Take my advise and get the Alpha 6035 cooler to go along with that 800 T-bird.

I overclocked my 800 T-bird and only got 850 with the Gorb. The Alpha got me to 950mhz rock stable and cool.

Iam pretty sure there are only 3 differences with retail and OEM:

1)Retail has Fan/Heatsink
2)Retail has 3 year warrently, OEM has 1 year
3)Retail comes in nice box.

It shouldn't make much difference which one you get from an overclocking perspective. The OEM might be a tad better, and probably alot cheaper, I'd get it.

As for the blue/green the difference is whether it was made in Texas with Aluminum (Green) or Germany with Copper (Blue).

They use a difference colour polish at the two different shops, and you can tell by looking at the tint on the core, though it's hard to tell without a blue and green one side by side.

Price/Performance/Heat/OC ability/Power Consumption are unnaffected by the difference.

if you think the Alphas are too expensive, get the GW FOP38.

and which question you want us to answer, the first (oem v retail) or second (core)?
both are answered!

Courtdog,

I think most of your questions have been answered but here we go:

TBIRDS are Fab'ed in 2 different facilities, Austin TX and Dresden Germany. The Austin FAB uses traditional aluminum interconnects in the manufacturing process, Dresden, being a new fab uses copper interconnects. Copper interconnects allow higher speed but there is no real evidence that either one allows higher overclocking on current TBIRD chips.

As stated, because of a difference in the type of polish used at each FAB the Austin chips have a distinct green color and the Dresden chips appear Blue. This has absolutely nothing to do do with the actual fab process, only the finishing. In fact Duron chips, which are only made in Austin are also turning up with Blue/Purple finsish, but they are not copper.

Regarding OEM/Retail, thats also been pretty much discussed, no real difference except warranty. Overclocking is really luck of the draw. BTW if you buy OEM, make sure that they are AMD Authorized Reseller else the 1 year warranty means nothing.

SORRY Jonny if you think I've been rude at all :-(

I posted the last message before I realized that the original question has already been answered. I guess now I could just use some help on which would be the best Heqatsink/Fan combo to buy in my attempt to O'Clock either a 700 or 800T'Bird to around 1000Mhz+ Could you offer any suggestions?? So far I would buy the GlobalWIN FOP38 combo, or can anyone offer any suggestions as to something that might be better.

Thanks a lot

I KNOW THAT ALL OF YOU FOLKS HAVE REALLY HELPED ME OUT,...BUT COULD SOME OF YOU BEE AS SO KIND TO ANSWER A FEW DIFFRENT QUESTIONS I HAVE, PLEASE......

Well soon I will buy a KT7-Raid and a T'Bird processor that I would like to try to Over clock. I heard that the T'Bird 700 has the same potential to get up to 1000Mhz as the 800mhz could go up that high. But I'm a bit confused, to get the 800 T'Bird to go up to 1000 possibly, because I have the KT7-Raid MB, do I have to do any physical modification to the T'Bird processor?? Do I have to do any modifications to any part of the top of the processor, or to the bottom; or both sides??

Finaly, whih T'Bird would you rather buy a 700Mhz or 800Mhz; to try to Over clock to 1000Mhz

If you plan to oc then go OEM, since you plan to get your own hsf combo, the extra price from retail means nothing. As for warranty that also means nothing as soon as you open your cpu case to overclock, you void any warranty. Just save the money and go OEM, its the same chip.
