which is better performance wise?

couldn't really tell from Tom's charts since these were listed on different years...

Would there even be any noticeable difference??

the Sempron is considerably faster, even at stock speeds...thanks mainly to the on die memory controller.

the Advantage of the Sempron is that they overclock like a gem....I have a 3100+ and Epox 8NPA SLI running at 2.95ghz (327x9 1.55v)...It's bloody fast for a budget setup...it performs pretty close to my A64 3000@2.87ghz.

Socket 754 Sempron vs. Athlon XP

Looks like it'll perform better in games. In other tasks, the performance should be pretty similar. However, why not add a little $ and get Socket 939 and A64.

At least you have dual core upgrade path and at some point X2 6000+ will cost $75. With socket 754 you are saving a few $$$ but in the end you are just closing doors. Plus A64 is a faster cpu to begin with and the prices are very low. X2 3600+ is going to be $75 this week.

There aren't any dual-core 754 parts.

Read it now, with the comma instead of a spacing and new sentence. 😉

OP-You should be able to find a used 939 set-up cheap too.
