which is better geforce 3 or geforce 3 ti200

The GeForce3 Ti 200 is a much easier chip for NVIDIA to make since it features a lower core clock speed than the original GeForce3. A lower core clock speed means that more chips can be sold thus reducing the cost of manufacturing. The GeForce3 Ti 200 core is clocked at 175MHz and the memory clock is reduced to 200MHz DDR (400MHz effective). The original GeForce3 core is clocked at 200MHz and the memory is clocked at 230MHz (460MHz effective).
 
so can the geforce ti200 be overclocked w/ stability to match the same performance or more than the normal Geforce3? tnkx

The geforce3 is better. Geforce3 ti200 is like the mx version of the geforce3 just scaled down a little in performance. It is still better than most geforce2's though (not sure about the ultras)

It's not an "MX" version. The "MX" version of the GeForce2 was actually castrated by removing pipelines. This is the EXACT same chip as the GeForce3, just clocked down...there are NO physical differences.

Regardless, I have my GF3 Ti 200 running at 200/415 right now. I haven't even really tried to push it yet.

I don't want to be annoing but it's not really same as Gf3, it same as Ti500, though both of them have same preformance as Gf3 on clock per clock basis.

Really? it is the exact thing? Hmm I heard that people couldn't get it as high as the regular geforce 3's oh well, let me know what happens when you push your geforce3 ti200, I am curious about them.

They are all the same chip, just spec'd according to what they what that were able to run at.

low yield chips = GF3 Ti 500
standard yield = GF3
those not @ quite standard yield = GF3 Ti 200

Yes the Ti200 overclocking charts I`ve seen are at or faster then the GF3 depending how far you overclock,of course you can OC the normal GF3 so it`s all down to money and what you want.

The only reason that I could see purchasing the standard GF3 (and not the Ti200) is for the selection. Currently, only a few manufacturers have actually made it to market with the new cards (PNY, Leadtek, Visiontek) - and you can find a much broader selection of brands and features if you go with the standard GF3. For example, you can't purchase a VIVO Ti card yet - which may/may not be an important feature to you.

On a related note, I've seen some benches where an oc'd Ti200 was able to match the performance of a standard GF3.

Actually the GeForce3 Ti200 is not the exact same chip as the GeForce3, it's the exact same chip as the GeForce3 Ti500 just clocked a bit lower 😉

The Ti series has a few extra little features over the regular GF3, though nothing major.

The Ti200 will be a bit slower, but nothing noticeable. And yes, while the Ti200 is the "MX" of the GF3 it's no where near the performance of a GF2MX, I think the Ti200 is the best value/performance card to come along in a good long while.

Oh come on, it's the same chip. Just as the GF2 Ultra was supposedly "enhanced." 🙂
 
okay, so i have an Amd tbird 1.4(Ayhja stepping) & ECS K7S5A mobo w/ 256MB crucial pc2100DDR ram & a Geforce 256 DDR on a 300watt ps. Is upgrading to a geforce 3 ti200 worth it in terms of being able to get more FSAA & 32bit & higher resolutions (1024 X 768)? or would a slightly higher priced radeon 8500 suit my needs better? I like the geforce 3 ti200 since it consumes less power than my Geforce 256 DDR, does the radeon 8500 also consume less power than the Geforce 256 DDR? Also, i know that my card can be converted to an nvidia Quadro by soldering/desoldering 2 resisitors, can this be done w/ the geforce 3 ti200. i plan to do vid editing, 3dstudio max, & CAD like stuff which requires accuracy in the drawings. Thanks in advance.

. I'm thinking that this increases the possibility of a simple resistor mod on a geforce3 ti200 w/ quadro bios/drivers converting a Geforce 3 ti200 to a $660 Quadro DCC card since they both use the same amount of memory & architecture. no?
