I think the 2hr 45min of sleep is better for you, even if you get a little bit of sleep it helps, trust me. even if you just sleep for 5-10 minutes throughout the day whenever you can, you'll feel better.

I'll give 1:45 a shot and see how it goes.

have a cold shower to wake yourself up afterwards is my suggestion...

Yeah, I used to have to do that after getting 1-2 hours of sleep before an 8am lab. I do NOT want to do that again. (But I probably will this semester....curse you, ATOT!:()

for me personally, it depends what I'm doing the next day.

if I have a long day ahead of me, I'll take whatever sleep I can get -- I might be hella tired when I wake up, but I'll be able to last longer later in the day.

on the other hand, if I have an 8 am final and then a 5 hour break after that, I'll just wait until after class to take a power nap.

I think you have a point there.

Edit: Although I would end up sleeping 12+ hours after said final, most likely :p

The human sleep is "detached" mostly in periods that repeat at some kind of 2 hours interval. So, it is better to organize your sleep around those 2 hours periods. However, if you are weary, even several minutes with eyes closed help, and any kind of sleep "stolen" works pretty good

I found out the hard way that it is much better to sleep before an exam than to pull an all nighter (especially if I learned most of the course before)
