If I were on the AT for 30 - 60 days, I would want at least 10- 20 GB of storage...

hehe...i know what you're saying. but, im not really going on this trip to take pictures. so its kinda a secondary thing. plus im only bringing a sd300 cause i dont want to lug a heavy dslr around. im thinking i should get about 600 pics outta 1gig.

I'm just use to shoting in RAW format now...fills up a 1GB card pretty fast...

the sd300 is a great camera for that trip...have fun. I love the AT.

What is your route?

im not 100% sure yet. i'm looking at 3 options, depending on how far i want to go:

1. maine to pennsylvania (i think this would take a couple months)
2. pennsylvania to blacksburg, va (probably take about 5 weeks)
3. just all of pennsylvania (probably take < 3 weeks).

yeh, definitely. i just need to get away for awhile. i've had this job that just worn on me for a few years and finally decided to do something about it.

maybe its a 1/3 life crisis, but i dont want to spend my life rotting away behind a desk. after my trip im contemplating joining the peace corps. but im not going to think about that in too much detail right now.

Whatever you decide, I recommand ATP sd memory cards. They are CHEAP and GOOD(60x spped which means 10mb read/write). I've been using that card over 2 month on my Canon.

for a month or two? sh!t, i'd probably take about 4 gb of photos with a 4 mp camera. blew through 1 gb in one week in new york. took 384 in 2 days in paris with 2 mp pictures.

i was in washington DC last weekend. i had 3 cards: 1 512, 1 128, and 1 256. i used them ALL up and i only really shot pictures on sunday.

i'm in BIG trouble when i go on a trip and don't have the ability to upload to a computer. thankfully, my 700m and a USB CF card reader will suffice for such purposes.

funny

I was able to survive the graduation ceremony with a 128MB camera with a 4MP camera.

Probably because I was asleep most of the time :p

it wasn't just at the graduation, silly. :p
