Which is better for Audio Editing

I was wondering if Intel or AMD is better for audio editing and programs like photoshop and autocad? And if a dual-core chip would help any?

AMD is currently better in most apps, period!!! Yes dual core will help with photoshop and Autocad....I am less familiar with audio editing....

In autocadd dual core will help in rendering, and some other functions....

What kind of budget??? cause price points especially on the extreme budget can make som eof the low end 8xx series a possibility...

Otherwise I say get a 3800+ X2, opteron 165 or 170....All reasonable price...Most A64 sckt 939 mobos are quite reasonable in price as well...even quality (non ECS bundles) boards...

Dual core will help tremendously for apps that are dual-core optimised (like Photoshop).
As Duvie points out, the best processers today are all AMD (for pretty much everything). This may change once Conroe is available, but it's unknown when that will be (guesses range from August to December for actual availability).
One other point you should note is that both audio editing and Photoshop are huge memory hogs potentially...this means that you want to spend for as much Ram as you can get, and using a 64bit system would probably be very beneficial in the long run.
One reason for the need for large amounts af ram is the size of some of the files you may end up working with...I have had both audio and video files larger than 4GB.

for audio, definately get dual core if youre using a RTAS system for Protools 7.0 such as an LE system. it has been optomized for dual core.
