Hehe, back when I was an undergrad I did fail Eng 101 ;). The damned professor actually expected a physics major to show up for every class . I missed 7 classes (all unexcused). The professor never said a word about it to me until the last day of class (when I handed in my final paper that I spent two weeks working on). He then told me that I had surpassed the 5 unexcused absence limit for the class and had failed. I missed all 7 of those classes in the first half of the semester and the arsehole made me sit through the rest of the class like a total dumbass. Since he never said a word about it, and I had an A in the class, I figured he was just going to let it slide. He didn't. I boycotted my english classes until my senior year after that ;).

Who the hell did he think he was?! Those who speak English are a dime a dozen. We NEED science guys!:D

Amok, I can't believe you guys could miss 5 classes in eng101!! We could only miss 3 and there was no such thing as an excused absence. If you were out more than that bye bye, see you again next semester.:)

Russ, too bad that scientific research is such a positively frustrating endevour outside of the actual research. I worked for 1 year at a university after I got my PhD before I became fed up with the bureacracy and went in search of another line of work ;).

blade_47, maybe the rules are a little more strict now? That was nearly a decade ago (wow, I'm getting old, 2 years and a few months until I turn 30). It still pisses me off! I had to explain away that little mess during interviews for undergrad research positions and during my application to grad school. I managed to finish high school, 4 years of undergrad work, and 3 years working on my PhD/physics and MS/math, with a combined total of 2 classes where I didn't manage at least a B in the course: ENG101(E) and a graduate level math class in which I got a C in. As a matter of a fact I'm in a very violent mood just thinking about that class...:|

It my community college the professor has the option of dropping you after 2 unexcused absences. They are required to after 4.

Also, I had an english professor give me a "B" on a paper just because I'm not a liberal arts major.

Hehe, I was bad about missing classes ;). I once went an entire semester where I only attended one class regularly and only showed up for tests in the others. I had fun that semester :).

Maybe we should change the title of the thread to "skipping classes and its consequences" ;).

Hmm, just realised that maybe I should add a disclaimer for those that are still in school. So here it goes...

MISSING CLASSES CAN SERIOUSLY EFFECT YOUR GRADES!! YOU SHOULD ATTEND ALL YOUR CLASSES REGULARLY, AS MOST PROFESSORS GET SERIOUSLY PISSED OFF WHEN A STUDENT DOESN'T COME TO CLASS. I KNOW, I TAUGHT AT A UNIVERSITY FOR A YEAR AND WENT HARDER ON THOSE THAT MISSED CLASS REGULARLY.

That being said, the best student I ever had only showed up to class once a week and I invited him to be on my research team. I went harder on those students who couldn't afford to miss but did anyway ;). The point being that if you are going to miss class, you better miss because you know enough to teach the class and can prove it ;).
