Spressa CRX175A-A1 Drive 24x/10x/40x Int EIDE w/Powerburn SW & Cbls - 145.00 then take $30 rebate (net is 115.00)

PlexWriter 32x/12x/10x Rewritable EIDE CD-RW - $128.00

What about combo? (CD-RW-DVD?

Combo Drive 32x/8x/8x/8x CD-RW/DVD-ROM/CD-ROM Internal EIDE - $141.00

Prices today from Provantage.com.

CD mostly used for installing software and making audio CDs. DVD might be a way to get a library started before I get a DVD player for entertainment center.

Thanks.

quite a few people in Toms Hawrdware forums swear by the plexwriters. also have a look at the LiteOn 24x10x40, lots of good words said and cheep.

i bought a Ricoh 12x10x32 + dvdx8 [mostly because i got £35 off for tatty packaging and missing an IDE cable :)]. havent got to try it out yet as im doing a new complete system and waiting (forever) for teh GF3Ti200.

Honestly, I would check out the Lite-On drives from newegg.com. They are as good as Plextors, without the exorborhant (sp?) price.

get the 32x plextor.Try to stay away from combo drives....i think its better to get seperate drives lets say you got a combo dvd and cd-rw what you gonna do if you wanna use both at same time....thats why i think you should always get seperate drives.
