Yah, I think you know the answer by now. Radeon is the current card with prettier features and much faster. Also MAXX does not work in windows 2000.

- what kind of system does he have? I mean, it's worthless purchasing the Radeon if he has an old Pentium 166 or something? Any chance you could fill us in a bit more on his computer specs?

I'll give you one piece of advice that will make your choice easy: stay away from the MAXX in any situation.

for 30 bones, I'd be going with a Radeon... but for $120, you could buy ANY GeForce2 MX card and then have some good driver support... drivers for ATI have been lukewarm at best.

Even with a $hit cpu, the radeon is a clear winner. T&L helps a bit. and maxx still has driver issues.

Currently using RF MAXX and I've got a few things to say....
1) It's a 2x AGP ONLY, sure the box mentions 4X, but only to state it goes in a 2x/4x AGP slot. I guess some of the compugeeks would otherwise get confused. More likely it is a way of distorting the truth, without being called a liar. NO WHERE ON THE BOX DOES IT MENTION 2X ONLY.
2) Not a bad card if you're mainly into 2d graphics or only playing 3D inept games like Diablo2.
3) It's dual chips take up 2 IRQs, but you can disable one of them(why? I didn't buy a RAGE FURY, I bought a Rage Fury MAXX... Real smart guys at ATI, huh?).
4) Have you ever heard of "Plug and Pray"? Well it's mixed with that and the notorious ATI phrase "All-In-Blunder"... :disgust:

Do yourself a real BIG favor... Buy a Geforce2 MX from Creative. It goes for around $130, but this one comes with 32 mb DDR, not the cr@ppy SDR everybody else is using AND you can have someone you know convert it for you into a Quadro2 MXR.:D

Who knows Nvidia may buy up ATI next.... Sorry 3DFx...

PS Rage Maxx does work in Win2K.... but who cares....

There is no comparison you should definately get a Radeon over that Fury MAXX. Or you can also get a 32mb Geforce 2 GTS card for about the same price as the 32mb Radeon.

Sariel: That MX w/DDR only has 64bit memory compared w/the SDR versions using 128bit, so they should perform roughly the same w/the SDR cards being slightly faster.

Radeon 32 MB DDR is at least 30 times better than the MAXX (especially because the MAXX has no Win2k support and never will).
