All of those 16ms LCDs are based off the same 16ms 8-bit AUO panel. They are fine but you will definately notice its inability to display the right colors.

The Sharp LL-T17A4B and the Philips 170S4FB are both pretty agressive monitors for under $400, but neither come with the DVI cable (although they do have DVI inputs.)

Supr...THAT is the $64,000 question. I am trying to figure out the LCD dilemma too. Shopping in the $400 range too. BenQ? NEC? 16ms, 25ms?

I like to play RTCW ET all day long.

I've been considering the Samsung 172X, it looks like the best 17", but I haven't seen any reviews to confirm this. It's got excellent paper specs (several versions actually), hopefully KristopherKubicki will get one soon and tell us it's all true :)

soon soon soon...

SuPrEIVIE:

Supposedly better. Color replication is on an 8bit panel isntead of 6bit and the respnose time is lower.

Cheers,

Yeah, with a pallette of only 16.2 million colors instead of 16.7 everything is all crazy looking.

i'd say at least $350 for a GOOD one. prices are rising though right now, so buy one soon. worldwide LCD demand is increasing a lot right now. the only places that really buy CRTs anymore is poorer countries.

just wait for the next crop of LCD"s to come out after the Holidays/Spring ... the latest Samsung, or a dirivitive of the LG/Philips screen.

Personally, i'm waiting for Samsungs clained "12ms" screen ... and to come in a 20" 1600x1200 offering :) Either that, or a better version than the Dell 2001FP with the 16ms, 8bit colour.

The 8bit/6bit fiasco is all bollocks really.
In 99% of situations, with 99% of people, it isnt noticeable.
Only people who are used to picking out exact colours, and doing very high res photo editing would likely notice, and would distract.
