Which in you people's opinion is the best performance/value wise or a router?

I want to purchase a 4 ports internet gateway router. I've been thinking getting a Netgear RT314. Any other suggestions that is best bang for bucks?

I've been using the Linksys for nearly a year with ZERO problems. But, the Netgear is also an excellent product. You won't go wrong in either case. Reach in to your pocket, grab a coin and flip it.

Did the reviewer test say, 20 of each? If not, there is no validity to any assertions made. Reviews are a good place to get basic information, but that's the extent of their value.

In addition to being a standard router, the SMC Barricade also has a print server and a 4/8 port switch integrated. The only other one that I have used was the Dlink Residential Gateway. Avoid that one at all costs, but the SMC has been excellent.

You want to buy Hardware:

1. Manufacture Information; Can not be the decisive factor since it is tainted by the need of the Manufacture to sell.

2. Review information; Can not be the decisive factor since they test only one sample (and many times this is a sample given by the manufacture for review.)

3. A user information; Can not be the decisive factor since it is tainted by the need of self justifying his/her decision making, and a lot of time it is based on a sample of one.

So what you do?

You make yourself knowledgeable of the above three factors, you take a risk, you buy, and then you can tell every one that "you are the greatest".
