Which HSF to choose, SK-6+ or GC69?

Hey folks,

I've finally got the opportunity to pick up some cheap parts from SVC (living as I do in Canada, Land Of No Shipping) so it's time to replace the Thermaltake 6cu which passes for a HSF on my rig.

I'm short on cash, so I'm looking at cheaper heatsinks like the Thermalright SK-6+ or the SVC GC68/69.

I'm running an Athlon 1.4 Tbird, which is an unholy heat monster.

I'm also hoping to mate an 80mm fan to whatever HS I end up using, in an effort to keep airflow up and noise down. It doesn't have to be an 80mm HS, I can use a clip or a 60-80 adapter easily enough.

So which HSF to choose? Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Well if there is any way you can swing the extra 10 bucks for an sk7 I would go that route. Since it is designed to accomadate an 80mm fan it will be much easier than rigging an 80 on an sk6+. I still use the original sk6 on a 1.33 tbird and the sk7 with an 800 48cfm fan on my main box (2100+@2.1gig) and they both do an excellent job but the sk7 with the 80mm fan is far quieter than the sk6 with the delta38 60mm screamer. If it were me i would try and swing an sk7. I think the cost of an adapter would easily equal the extra 10 dollar cost of an sk7 over the sk6+. Not sure on pricing and availability in Canada just going by Newegg pricing in USD. Well just looking at KD computers site and i see they have AX7s again thought they were discontinued. Must have started making them again which is a good thing that is a pretty good heatsink. Those are only 19.00 usd and will do an excellent job on that tbird and most current Athlons. You're absolutely right, I just don't think the SK-7 will fit on my mobo.

Worth some extra measurement, though...

(I've already got the adapter, picked up one for $5 to quiet down my 6cu)

I would get the SK-6+ definately, as its a quality heatsink. Just use an 80mm fan and rotate it 1/4 turn so the corners hang off the edge of the heatsink.

I tried search for the GC68/69, but i couldn't find it. Where could I find more information about these? and where to buy one. thanks.
