which horror movie scarred you as a child?

poltergeist really screwed me up as a kid. I couldn't sleep in my own room without the lights on. I had a palm tree right outside my window that absolutely freaked me out, and that stupid clown/jack in the box gives me the creepers to this day.

ghostship

actually I am not sure this was the title.

A bunch of people on a yacht find a deserted ship and board it. Their party keep getting killed off one by one every night. Something to that effect.

The Shining, It, and .... not a horror, but I was shit-scared of E.T. being in my clost for an embarassingly long time.

I was never scared by horror movies. The movies that freaked me out the most were:

- Alice in Wonderland (live action version)
- Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
- Wizard of Oz

They weren't really scary, they just freaked me out for some reason. I think I have an irrational fear of midgets.

It and Cat's Eye. I was afraid to shower for fear of something coming through my drain. I was afraid to sleep in fear that a little monster would steal my breath.
I still don't like watching those movies.

Evil Dead

It was either Evil Dead or Evil Dead II that I saw when I was 5/6.

Well, I saw both on the same day and wanted to sleep beside my mom at night, my uncle kept telling me it's a real life video..

Elm Street. Rationalized internally that I could run away from Jason or Michael Myers or Chucky or whoever. But this fucker kills you in your dreams and turns the stairs into muck. Then he rakes you to death with a glove made of knives. I was 10. I'll never be 10 again.

I don't know what movie it was but it was black and white with zombies. It was most likely Night of the Living Dead. It's probably laughable now but when I saw a small clip of it at 6 years old. The image of half decayed faces haunted my dreams for years to come.

I also saw Hellraiser when I was about 12. That was pretty scary at the time. People getting axed didn't scare me. It was pinheads group that were all masochistically mutilated in some way that was scary to me. The most outstanding was a person with their throat peeled open and exposed. The funny thing is now I see stuff like that every day in surgery.

I guess I shouldn't ask what genius let a 5-year old watch Evil Dead?

The original Nightmare on Elm Street was awesomely scary when I was a kid, though it didn't have any lasting impact on me.

Nightmare on Elm Street/Freddy Kruger - The one with the spider/cockroach trap.

That and a bunch of kiddy scary shows on YTV.
