i have an xp2100+ (0.15 core one) and was wondering what heatsink to get over the stock one... here are some choices i have as i'm getting it from ncix.com

ALPHA PAL6035
COOLERMASTER AERO 7+
GLOBAL WIN CAK38
GLOBAL WIN WBK68
THERMALRIGHT SLK-700
THERMALTAKE SLIM VOLCANO 8
VANTEC AEROFLOW

im leaning towards the vantec but i dont really know much about any of these... i dont care at all about noise i just want sheer cooling power :p

what do you guys think? thx! :)

I am not the all knowing authority on HSF but I have seen that the Coolermaster AERO 7+ and Vantec Aeroflow aren't bad choices but are quite noisy. I see you don't care about noise, though.
What's your budget by the way?

That's odd, because I'm leaning towards picking up an Aeroflow for my new system because it's supposed to be (at least relative to its effectiveness) *quiet*! That's the model with the low-noise TMD fan...

Hmm, I think some other popular choices are missing from the list. You may want to check out the AX-7, SK6+, and other Thermalright coolers (they're excellent for making a quiet HSF system).

I would have thought the same thing as I was once interested in getting it. Then I would consistently see forums where it was said to be noisy. I want as quiet a system as I can get so I've opted to look elsewhere not because I am unhappy with my current Artic Cooling (quiet) HSF but I want to see if it helps me OC a little better.
As you said noise is relative so who knows, maybe to us it wouldn't be so bad.

Scratch the AlphaPal6035. It has a clip from Hell and will probably be worse than a stock AMD heatsink. I know it is inferior to the AJIGO I got with an XP2400+. My only other suggestion is to discard any heatsink that does not have the 6 prong (3x2) clip. I like the ones that grab all three prongs on each side of the socket and have the recess for using a regular flat screwdriver as the installation tool.

I also found that the regular flat screwdriver is excellent for spreading Ceramique over the cpu core. It is sturdy and very controlable. I pull the goo across the core on a diagonal. I get the entire top covered with an opaque layer and then a little mound in the center. I also rub a little bit into the surface of the heatsink.

The stock heatsink may be better than you realize. Lap it and evaluate it. If you are going to OC then do some shopping. If you aren't, you may already have the best bang for the buck.

ThermalRight has a dilema. It has made such good heatsinks that improving the line with tangibles is difficult. If I were shopping today, I would find a ThermalRight on sale.
