I have an Athlon 800, and I'm looking to run this thing as high as I can. I was looking at Alpha Coolers, but they are very $$$. what's the general opinion on the Slot A Golden Orb coolers, I've heard that they are not the greatest but the price sounds great. Any info is greatly appreciated

What do you think of the 14 Jul review here at Anandtech on coolers? Did you read it?

The Heatsink/Fan Review on Anandtech now is great....but it doesn't really help me..since it is for the Socket A processors (ie Duron, Thunderbird)
I have a Slot A Athlon 800, and I want to see if I get it to run up to GHz, it looks possible. I just want to know if it's worth getting the Golden Orb Slot or should I get the the tried and true GlobalWin heatsink.

Maybe I missed something in the 14 Jul review, but weren't all the tests done on a Celeron 533 ppga (not Fcpga)? So I don't think It only covers socket A processors. It might be geared to sockets over slots but I think the results, in the end, will be the same. I've seen a similar review (can't find the link) and the results are the same. The Alphas win but not by much. I think PCNut has a link to a similar review.
You didn't ask but also look at this review of thermal compounds.

Compare the thermal compound reviews and the heatsink reviews. Most namebrand heatsinks transfer heat well and there's not much difference between them. But there's a big difference between the heat transfer rate of competing Thermal greases. BTW Artic Silver Premium Wins. I think its true that the type of thermal grease might make more difference than the brand of heatsink and fan.

Sorry about that I didn't mean to say that the whole review convered only Socket A cpu fans. But it doesn't cover slotA fans. But thanks for the info on the thermal compound....I think i'll pick up some better stuff....
