I have a Pioneer PRV-9000 DVD recorder that has a good S-video and composite output. The component output does not work. I need to convert the S-video or the composite output to HDMI with embedded audio because the TV I am using has only a component and a HDMI input. I have found the Blackbox AVSC-VIDEO-HDMI. Composite input and stereo audio to HDMI with embedded audio output. Or Gefen GTV-COMPSVID-2-HDMIS. S-video, composite input and stereo audio to HDMI with embedded audio output. I'm simply asking if anybody has used or have heard anything about these two companies products and what anybody thinks about them.
Thank you,

Why would you want to pay that much for one of those converter boxes when you can buy a new blu-ray player for under $100 that will output to hdmi or even possibly component?

I would like to continue to use this deck because it is a recorder and they are not made for the US and sold here anymore. This Pioneer PRV-9000 is a pro deck and cost about $2000 when I bought it when it came out in 2002. It real time records, edits and plays back perfectly, just the component output Y signal is malfunctioning.

Pay to have the component output fixed.
I have looked into that. I am a retired tech. The faulty IC that is giving me an intermittent Y output is part of the main board and can't be replaced I need to replace the board. The unit is too old. Parts can no longer be found. I called the manufacturer and several tech repair outlets for pro gear.

Did you check if the solder joints are good? Wouldn't be the first time the joints on these RCA style connectors come loose due to repeated plugging and unplugging.

The connectors are BNC. Signal loss originates at IC output. IC is micro robot soldered on board. You can troubleshoot at the board level but if there is any IC component that is malfunctioning the board has to be changed. As a tech I have dealt with this many times.
