which one to choose among the following?
Maxtor 120Gb, ATA
Hitachi 120Gb,ATA
Seagate 160Gb,SATA
Samsung 120Gb, SATA
which make is better? Between ata and sata there is not much difference it seems...so which make is better? thanks for any contribution

i don't think the fans were added on the hdd unless the computer shop added it out of goodwill...well so it seems seagate gets the thump up

You can add active cooling stuff to hdds, usually you need a 5.25" bay to do it though.

Seagate is good because they often have 3 or 5 year warranty. You should go with SATA if you can, at some point you will want to have only SATA drives and having a bunch of old IDE drives will be an inconveniance 🙂

ok guys so i'll buy the 160gb sata from seagate, i'll be using it while converting vhs to mpeg1 & 2 . currently i have an 80gig maxtor which will hold the os and applications for editing and encoding.

umm called the shop, seagate out of stock, maxtor sata 200gig at same price they are offering me...won't get seagate before three weeks...grrr
