My understanding is that Kia and Hyundai are products of the same company, therefore both equally low prestige.

well in korea, Hyundai has a longer history and "prestige"

nowadays, I think many of their cars are just rebadged versions of the other's

Hyundai.

But I simply love the looks of the KIA Sorento. I bet it was called a Toyota Sorento, it would have been a huge hit with the 21-25 demographic.

Similarly, if the Hyundai Tiborun was called a Nissan or Toyota Tiborun, it would have become the defacto cool car to have for every kid in high school.

Well Hyundai has been out for a while, I sold them in 93 ;)

There first cars were total junk but the newer ones are not bad.

Kia is new

The folks had a loner hyundai a while back, and from what I saw of it, it wasn't all that bad (but then again, as a loner it didn't see much use).

They launched the sonata in 93 (I was selling them) and I believe they have a bigger one now.
