Based on the choices given, Plextor is the most overrated. I've had a far higher percentage of their drives fail then either Yamaha or Sony.

plextor by default....haven't owned an matrox card, but have owned a plextor and a few other brands of burners...of which the plextor was not my favorite or "least coaster producing"

Plextor is really over rated and over-recommended.

I have bought, sold, and used alot of cd-rw of all brands and makes, and never have seemed to have a problem with them.

never used either of the two choices, but in general the common people that I talk to school usually think their computer's performance is based on

1) their amount (or lack of) ram
2) their hard drive size (no mention of speed, just size)
3) their computer brand (dunno why everyone tells me they own a compaq when I ask them for their comp. specs)
4) Processor Name (they never know how fast it is, just whether it's a pentium 2, 3 or 4 or AMD Athlon / athlon thunderbird etc.

no one seems to know about video cards or motherboards at my school, which I can guess is to be expected.

Plextor.

I like Matrox even if there are other cards that can compete in 2D quality, 2D quality in general is underrated, and Matrox has some cool stuff like G200MMS quad monitor cards ;)

I have both a Matrox (DDR G450 Dualhead) and a Plextor (241040A in black), what does that make me?

I've been extremely happy with both, although the Matrox does make for a crappy gaming experience. Good thing I don't play games any more.

Plextor. My Matrox flat out destroys any nVidia card. I had to use a GF2 for a while, and when I went back to my G400, I was shocked because I could see the edges of text. (G400 + 700NF, CLAP2 + PF775)
