which gunshot looks more realistic?

Ok, i know they look terrible.. I have a short to film on sunday that involves one gun shot using the prop gun in this test.. I don't know a thing about guns so which take looks the most realistic? Judge based on the size of the flash and distance not the axis/framing of the shot (I would tweak those for the actual production). Again, this is just a test/experiment so i'm looking for which looks more realistic..

any pointers to make shot 1 or 2 more realistic? don't make fun of my gun handling, i've never touched a gun - we'll have a gun freak on hand to make sure that the actress holds the gun properly...

Test gunshots 1 and 2

Thanks guys!

p.s. blank firing guns are illegal in NYC so I can't use one :(

Make a poll next time!!!

I like the first better, but the 2nd is probably more realistic.

The recoil acting is a little weak. See if you can find some videos floating around with people shooting handguns and try to immitate those.

People tend to be lazy with polls, I'm cluess so I'd like to hear what can be done to make it more realisitc... Thanks for your opinion, I'm keeping tally :)

Is that guy trying to jack off the gun?

Out of the two, I'd have to say 1, but both are kinda "ehhh"

Yeah, I am SO not an actor- our weapons dude will make sure the recoil is somewhat realistic.. but he won't be around for editing so I gotta do the flash on my own..

try doing the flash of number 2, but reduced in size by a scale of about 5 or so. This is a handgun, not a cannon spewing forth all of the flash :)

Anybody who has fired a gun would say neither. First off, you shouldn't be pulling the slide back after each shot. In real life, you would be ejecting an unused bullet from the chamber. The slide will move back automatically when you fire so as to put the next bullet in the chamber to be fired. Since its a fake gun, there's not much you can do about that.

Oh, and the muzzle flash is a bit large.

I misread this title and thought to myself, 'how come this is not locked already?'

I think you can figure out what I thought it said the first time! :shocked;

What are you using for the flashes? You should check out FXHome.com and AlamDV2 if your not already using it...</promotion> :D

The point about the second one looking like a rifle flash is valid. I guess I'd go with the first one (even though the second looks cooler), but much smaller. I've never seen a gun, even in darkness, create a muzzle flash that large.
