Which gun did you unlock first in BF2?

I still have a few weeks before I'll be getting to choose one and wanted to know why you made the choice you did and if you'd make the same one again.

I took the sniper rifle. If I could choose again I'd go with the medic upgrade or the assault upgrade.

I took the sniper upgrade because I was getting pissed off at heli pilots and thought that it would be good to be able to shoot them out of the sky. Turns out it is way too much effort to snipe them.

Engineer's auto-shotty. It does a little less damage per shot but it'll clear out a room or flag real nice.

Street sweeper here. Nothing beats it short range except a knife. It also looks different. The unlockable weapons arent really much if any better, just different pro/con. You can select either weapon with that class after youve unlocked by the way. So if you hate the weapon youve unlocked your not stuck with it. You can still use the origional weapon with that kit. The street sweeper is the anti tank unlock. A 12 gauge semiauto shotgun with a 12 round maginzene. It will shoot as fast as you can push the mouse button. Ever get run over by a dune buggy? I'll kill the driver passenger and buggy before it hits me. Now dont try that with a hummer or truck. The cons? Huge reload time and at medium range you would be better served throwing rocks, It does nothing at range. But I launch rockets with splash damage at range. The mini gun (origional weapon with kit) is useable at medium range but also lacks at long range. So there ya go, I'm happy with my choise but I try to understand the pro/con tradeoff and use the weapon strengts to my benifit. The bottom line none of the unlockable weapons is going to make you a god. I actualy played assult more before getting lance cpl But I love the assult gernade launcher. The assult unlock loses that but I beleave you get hand gernades. I'm not normally an fps player and not very good getting the crosshairs where they should be so splash damage and the spread of a shotgun helps me get kills.

The unlocked weapons hardly make a difference at all. If you suck with the regular weapons, chances are you're gonna suck with anything that you unlock. If you're good it won't make too much difference either.

I dont care its too MMO or CS-ish . Every gun that is available to one person should be available to the other. So theres 2 different versions of one gun one being better than the other.. just enable them for everyone hows that.

I unlocked the G36C. Don't regret it at all.

Next unlock will be the DAO-12.

SpecOps short range? can do it, medium range? owns it. long range? can do it.
Sniper unlock STILL doesn't kill /w a chest shot.
Assault unlock runs out of ammo too quickly / no nade launcher
PKM is nice, but I just don't like support
Engy unlock would be nice, but DAO is better.
Medic unlock isn't any more accurate than the M16.
AT unlock pwns @ short range, sucks at long range.

Sniper rifle. Because when it comes down to it, there is only one class that really relies soley on it's weapon, and that is the sniper. Any other class, and I'm most likely doing something else besides firing a gun, like healing people, repairing, resupplying, bombing, etc.

My friend snipes a lot more than me and has vouched to sniping the pilots out of hellicopters with the upgraded gun. I have yet to pull this off though.

I was sniped in a helicopter last night so I can verify it works.

The assault class also relies soley on the gun.

I think I read that the secondary gun for the assault is even worse because it doesn't have a grenade launcher?

I unlocked the Assult G3 and I'm reasonably happy with it. It is the only rifle that is rated high for both damage and accuracy, and it's pretty true. It gives you a slight edge in those one on one medium range trade off gun fights. Assuming you can aim. It also doesn't do too bad aiming from the hip for those 20 to 30 foot range fights. The hand thrown grenades also are more flexible than launcher ones for some things.

Unfortunately, since you almost have to take AT kit to survive in the land of vehicles, I find I only play Assault class here and there.

I unlocked the Engineer shotgun since I play Engineer about 90% of the time. Still useless at anything beyond close quarters but great when in close.

Good info thanks.

Although, I don't find being on foot as negative as it was in BF1942. There are plenty of places to hide including brush and buildings and lots of places vehicles can't easily go. There are also those stationary rocket launchers at nearly every control point. Still, with the insane splash damage the AT missile does, why not go AT? :)

Actually, I've seen plenty of AT missles land near guys and do nothing. You've got to really hit dead on to kill infantry with that missle. If it is slightly past them, beside them, etc, you best be pulling out a gun. Just my experience with AT, which is ample :D I've achieved a ranking of 1000 something for the AT missle.

Now on the other hand, blasting it into the bay of a Blackhawk that has a couple guys firing from it....two dead guys!

I've shot at like a half dozen people with it and one hit killed them all, but I'll take your word for it. Just like in UT2004, I aim for their feet. I find AT too weak against tanks. I'd rather look for my own vehicle or drop some C4.

Big agree on the entire unlocking thing being unnecessary. It takes away from realism, and a game like BF2 should not need unlocks to keep players interested.

The game would be more fun if all those weapons were available in the start. I find it hard to believe that an AMP DSR-1 is a better sniper rifle than the tried and trued M-24, but, then again, this is a game, and guns that look 'cool' always have to do tons of damage.

I also dislike how the available bonus rifles dont reflect any real world military or police force of any kind. Sure, the Enfield L85 is the exception (though it has proven to be an unreliable rifle). The G3???? C'mon! Great rifle, used by many nations all over the world at some time. But how many nations use it now? Various 3rd world countries, Southern American paramilitaries and Swedish army? Dont even get me started on the streetsweeper 12 ga.

Instead of a AMP DSR-1, how about a damn Barret .50 or Barret 25mm?
