hi all i need a new graphics card.
i have a 1.2 processor
found the following:

fx5200 64 for £55
fx5200 128 for £65
8500 le 64 for £42

and saphire do:
9200 64 for £54
9200 64 dvi for £56 (whats dvi?)
9200 128 for £58
9200 256 for £77

if anyone knows of a better card around this price range or deal let us know

ive been told to look for older midrange cards like ti4200.
does the 4200 have an advantage over the fx5200

thanx alot in advance for any replies.

first off, welcome to the forums

the 4200 is quite a bit faster than the 5200

btw, what kind of CPU do you have? there is a big difference between a t-bird 1.2 and duron 1.2

He could also have a Celeron/P3 1.2 😉

Off that list you've got there I'd say the 9200 128MB is the best shot, but a Ti4200 will eat both the FX5200 and R9200 for breakfast and still be hungry.

I really recommend staying away from the fx5200, I can't really bring myself to recommend them to anyone. I'd get a 9200 instead, and a ti4200 would be the best. As for your question about dvi, it's used for lcd monitors. If you don't have an lcd or plan to get one anytime soon, you won't need it.

Edit: a 256mb 9200 would be a complete waste. You wouldn't need any more than 128mb ram on any video card you get.

welcome to the forums, and for your setup, the cheapest stuff is all ya need, but i would stay away from 64bit 5200s

yeah thanx im looking into these in order:

at the NEW atek ti4200 64 for £60-80

if it gets into the 70s i think i might go for the:

8500le 64 with no extras or leads - they dont mention make and i think its used for around £32
or the same card (i think) new for £42

i will wait till the new graphicscards come out. when does doom3/hl2/deusex2 etc come out as im waiting for a real good game to come out b4 i need one. so wil the ti's still be available then and if so when will they be cheaper

Come on technoo, we've already gone through six or seven pages of discussing all this in another popular forum. Make up your mind already.

Welcome here anyway 😉

I know HL2 should be out in september, and Doom 3 in around march of next year. The ti's will still be around for a while, but the prices on them probably aren't going to drop dramtically, especially by september. By the time Doom 3 is out though, there should be some nice cards for about the current price of a ti4200.

damn peter u everywhere. yeah i see what u saying pete. but if i hadnt gone elsewhere i would have got a 8500. now i realise that just wouldnt be practical for the new games. so ti4200 is the way. ive also decided to wait for these games/ and new cards to come out.

so when would a price drop occur in tis??

The Radeon 8500 is the best of the cards you listed and if you can get one for $42
its a steal. I have one on my Lan machine with a cheap Duron 900 and it runs every
game I've thrown at it at 1024X768 without problems.
If you can spend a little more then the Ti4200 is better. I have one on my 1600XP
and got about a 20% increase over the 8500.

I don't think the Ti4200 will come down too much more as it's still a top selling card
and is already under $100, But you never know. 😀

I would buy the Geforce Radeon 99525800 series card with AA/AF GD TF Super Duper Vertice Support.

It can be bought for 12 dollars American and 768,595,044 dollars Canadian. I have no idea how many pounds.

Peace out.

Oh wait a minute, I meant to say ti4200 blows the 5200 out of the water in most games you play today.

If you're getting ready for new games, you're better off getting a new motherboard/CPU/RAM/and video with a 1.2GHz chip in there. Out of those cards go for the GF4 Ti4200 128MB
