System Specifications:

I. Processor/CPU:
I currently have a core 2 duo E7400 @ 2.8 Ghz but Im planning to upgrade to an i5 3450

II. Current Graphics Card: Nvidia 9400 GT

III. Display Resolution: 1440*900

IV. Power Supply Unit : Corsair 450 Watts

I'm in a dilemma. I do not know whether to buy a 6770 or 6850. Will all the games work in a 6770?? Also is 6770 enough for my resolution or do i compulsorily need to buy the 6850 to run High-End games like GTA 4?

At that resolution it's about 62.5% of a 1080p panel so you will be pretty well off with a used HD 6850 which to this day is still probably the best bang for the buck around $100 USD. A 6770 is fine for most games as well, but I think you will find that they cost almost as much as HD 6850s anyway, so you might as well just get a HD 6850, unless you can get a HD 6770 at a serious discount from a HD 6850. Like 30% lower price. If you can get GTX 460 1GB cards then those are about equal to a HD 6850 so you may want to shop around to see which is cheaper in your location.

I actually have a 7770 and you will be fine, especially at lower than my resolution of 1080p (the monitor I have hooked up to my 7770). If you can get a 6850 for the same price, get the 6850 instead as it is slightly faster. Ditto the GTX 460-1GB which is slightly faster than the HD 7770.

I just got a 7770 for my 1440 x 900 monitor, and am very happy with it so far. I got it for a very good price at micro center. Skyrim is the most demanding game I play though.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/23.html and http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_560_2_GB/27.html taken together seem to indicate that the GTX 560 (non-Ti) would be ~15% faster. The GTX 560 Ti would definitely be faster... by even more. So I would get the GTX 560 since it's the same price as the 7770, unless your electricity rates are really, really high AND you plan to idle your PC 24/7.

This all assumes your PSU is strong enough for it, of course. It should be, being a Corsair 450W unit, so long as you do not heavily overvolt and overclock both your CPU and GPU.

Short answer: get the GTX 560.

If you think Assassin's Creed III is worth a buy, definitely go for this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162127

If you upgrade your monitor to a cheap 1080p one that costs only like $100, you'd still be able to enjoy many games at nice IQ settings, unlike with a 7770. You'd probably also be able to use slightly higher settings for GTA4 with a GTX 650 Ti, even at 1440x900.

EDIT: It looks like GTA IV can still be a demanding game:

(Although there seems to be a glitch with the HD 7950 result - just take a look at the other resolutions on that page)

Here's a better one that i just found:

Only if they could test it at high settings with greater distance turned on..

Since your pc specs and gaming resolution is not that high, I'd go for a 7770 since its quite close to the 6850 in newer games. I don't think the 6850 ($157 shipped) is worth it for your cpu. A used 6770 would be a good choice also.

If you can get a 560 for the same price, the 560 non-ti significantly faster but consumes more power.

GTA 4 is an unoptimized CPU hog. I Get 40 to 60 fps with occasional dips to the 30's on max settings. When I had my GTX 560ti my performance was the same as what I get now.

GTA 4 runs horrible with only 4G of system memory. You'd see a huge difference with 8GB.

His CPU cant handle a 560 or a 6870. All he needs to do is spend about 130 dollars and buy a 460 1GB and hes set to go. I bet he doesn't even game at 1080p. Probably has a 23 inch mon and 1680x1050 ..... No need for him to spend that much on a video card upgrade and get a 6870 or 560 Ti for a pos CPU and a PSU that might not handle it.

Grab the 460 1GB ,, it gave me 60fps in all games,, dips to 50's then back up, using 1080p 8xAA CSAA FXAA 16xAF high quality vsync on

Get the 7770 if you can swing it.
