So this card: "SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC, 4GB GDDR5" would cost 333 € (424.50 US Dollar), which is 54€ cheaper (68.83 US Dollar). Actually i already decided for the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G, but would the R9 be the better choice ??

At those prices go for the MSI Gaming 970. I am pretty sure whatever it costs you more upfront will be made up in higher resale value later. Also, in the next 6 months there will be a lot of NV GameWorks titles (AC Unity, Far Cry 4, The Witcher 3, Project Cars, Batman Akham Knight) that will probably all run faster on the 970. With such a predominant list of 6+ months games favouring Nvidia, with a small price difference and lower power usage, grab the 970 unless you can find a much cheaper 290.

If your budget is $600 for example, doesn't mean 980 is the best buy. The best strategy for keeping your rig up to date is to upgrade it often. That implies finding a balance of how to get good performance now without overspending and allow yourself room to upgrade again in 2-3 years. If you blow all your money and keep the card for 4-5 years, it's the inferior strategy. That said if the OP upgrades every 2-3 years then 970 is a solid option.

How many times do we have to say the cheapest card isnt always the best bang for money?, if the cards were the same price, would you still recommend the AMD card?, if not, would be only be because of the cooler chip?

Given your 450W PSU I'd go with a 970 and not dare OC it.
There would still be enough room even if he overclocks it. My setup consumes at maximum gaming load of 411w recorded under company of heroes 2 max settings and that includes the LED monitor.

So a guy at my local store said that my PSU should at least have 500w , so mine is too weak , but you guys already said it should work just fine with mine , so there is nothing worry about , isn't it ?

i5 3470 + 970 should be easy for a Corsair VX450W

I already recommended 970 in this thread despite it being more expensive. The price difference in North America was far greater $230 HIS R9 290 vs. $330 for cheapest 970. In that case I would pick R9 290 all day. For the OP, the price difference is not that great and the prices are much higher to begin with. That's why 970 makes more sense for him; esp. based on the games he wants to play.

That PSU is fine for either a 290 or a 970.

imho,

Those great deals don't usually last too long -- promotional -- to alleviate stock -- and usually doesn't represent the pricing over-all. Great deal if one is shrewd and has great timing.

I just got a reply from the online shop where i wanted to order my graphic card: They wrote that the MSI GTX970 Gaming 4g is currently sold out and that they would offer me the Inno3D GeForce GTX 970 iChill Herculez X4 Air Boss Ultra instead for the same price. I havent heard about this manufacturer , so I am not really sure.

Actually i wanted to have the card until the 16th of november. When i order the Inno3D i will be fine, when i order the msi i have to wait until the 24th of november. I know its not a long time , but i'd still like to know what you guys think about that.

R9 290 will be too much for your power supply. GTX 970 will probably be fine. This is one of the few circumstances where you should get a 970 and not the 290.

The Air Boss is an AWESOME card, much better than the MSI. Much higher overclock and lower temperatures at the same volume. Definitely do that. It is a more expensive card too, so you're getting a good deal. Air Boss has the lowest temperatures of any 970/980. Great cooler.

And that is @~1260 boost factory OC

Though up front I think the 290 is a better deal, I would get a 970 just because then you won't have to get a new PSU, as long as the PSU is not old. If that is an old PSU I'd recommend getting a new PSU before putting the new card in. ANd in that case, you could likely get the 290 and the new PSU for the same price as a 970.
