TOTAL: $482.98

It's a bit overbudget, but worth it.

Get a DX10 GPU when the time comes, no sense in spending $450 for a GPU that won't run any DX10 games.

no point in buying a dx10 gpu when most games won't be using it until later next year.
the only ones i know of that will be using it are

Crysis
Microsoft Flight Simulator X Patch when vista comes out

besides, thats not even close to a feasable choice as i won't have money to spend on a computer/parts until next summer/christmas. If i spend all my money on your choice, i will still be stuck with my fx5500, which can't even run now day games on low

Excactly! Get a better comp now, and wait for dx10 to be in full force to get a new graphic card.

I am going to assume you have a PCI-e motherboard. I jsut bought a MSI 1900xt for $280 after rebate. It runs everything I ask of it, flawlessly, with no OC. Benchmarks I have seen say this the 1900xt is the sweetspot right now, the XTX, GTX, and 1950, etc are overpriced for the performance they give.

Is my card DX10? nope. B.F.D. DX10 won't be in use or another year or two in games, I am not going to sit around looking at claymation on my computer waiting for it.

Upgrading your CPU/mobo/RAM right now while using that 5500 of yours would be a waste of money. If you were going to do that you might as well just put the $500 in the bank and earn interest until you could buy the whol thing.

or i could just get a better video card now, run current and future releases, then sell this computer around summer/fall time and build a new computer with all my saved up money and the money from this computer.

that sounds more plausible

yes, i had ordered a 7900gt off of newegg in may and got a defective one but didn't take the time to RMA until about 1-2 months ago. instead of getting a replacement they just gave me a full refund of $300. and now i want to buy a new video card, and thats what i'm going to do :)

Second the X1900XT at the just below $300 price point - definite sweet spot. LOTS of alternatives here, plays most any game you throw at it, and CHEEP!!! It'll last you awhile - get one and save the rest for a comp upgrade later this year. :)

Get the x1900xt for ~$300. None of the higher priced cards offer $150 worth more performance than the xt. And no point in waiting for DX10 cards when no DX10 games are available.

Well, since you have a PCI-e motherboard, I'm assuming you have a socket 939 Athlon 64. In which case, you could drop in an Athlon X2 3800+ for ~$150, which is the only really worthwhile upgrade you could make from a 3200+ in that price range.

X1900XT plus either overclock your 3200+ and keep the change, or upgrade to a 3800+ X2... you could always try your luck with the oc first & if results arn't so great, then do the CPU later.
