which gives better quality BNC or VGA for monitor?

Hi,

I have a 19in Monitor that offer BNC and VGA... just out of curiosity... what does BNC stand for and compare quality between BNC and VGA, which one is better?

It stands for Bayonet Neill-Concelman (Dudes who created the connection type). As for image quality, I dont know. I saw these on some of the larger Samsung moniters before. Im also kinda interested in that.

do a quick search (search all messages) you will find a lot on this subject ... the general consensus is, now, on modern monitors, it doesnt really matter either way, vga is standard ..

Theoretically the BNC connector should give better image quality, but the difference is usually negligable.

Back in the days when Electrohome was one of the most prominent monitor makers, using BNC would sometimes give up to double the bandwidth of the 15-pin connector, but there doesn't seem to be nearly as much of a difference any more.

From personal experience, given roughly equivalent cable quality and video card quality, BNC connectors will give you slightly better image quality (mainly color) at higher resolutions at higher refresh rates. This tendancy is more pronounced with longer cables.

At 2048x1536 (Sony F series tube), I could definitely tell the difference between BNC and VGA.

why are bncs better?

they are single wires shielded by a surrounding ground mess, right?

vga has more wires to them

i'm not disputing, just wondering

I tried a BNC cable on my monitor after afew weeks and notice a slight improvement everything was slightly sharper especially small text , I`m still using it now.The only way to find out is to try it for yourself.

🙂

I use BNC on a Sam. Sync. 900SL and I do believe that the text is a little sharper than without. But that is subjective largely.
