Hi all, I have a project to upgrade my 3 yr old system. I'm looking to start buying parts however not sure on the mobo.
I'll probably stick with gigabyte, as my current and past boards have all been good.
The problem is, Gigabyte have too many options.
I really love the 'silent pipe' setup however those boards are a premium which I dont mind if they are worth it.

Is their anything other else to the DQ6 over say the DS3R which everyone seems to like for clocking other than the heat-pipes. $200 difference is alot just for looks.
In NZ, we have

$368 GA P35 DS4 with heat-pipes
$254 GA P35 DS3R with heat sinks
$402 GA P35 DQ6 with heat-pipes.

Other components

Q6600 or maybe just a C2D
2 - 4Gb not sure if I'll go Vista 64
8800GTS/GTS

I already have a 650 PSU and HDD's and a couple of optical drives

I plan to mod my TJ06 with a Zalman 9700 in the wind tunnel, relocate the Floppy Drive cage up to the top chamber under the optical drives, and replace the 80mm intake with a 120mm intake and thinking about attaching a 120mm exhasut on the side window above the expansion card area to keep the system and cards cool as shown here

Once the Zalman is optimized in the tunnel to stop escaping air where the tunnel buts to the mobo (probably use windows sealing tape or such), i will probably try my luck at clocking, looking for a 3Ghz quad.

So i guess the question is....are the silent-pipe mobo's worth it?

ta for your advice

Great link Ozoneman, while the temps were informative, its the crazy cool backplate details that were the eye opener.....where they were getting in the way of Zalman cooler backplate....

I didnt know that.....I may have to accept the DS3R with just the heatsinks, or wait for the X38 boards....
