I have 2 pc's hooked up with win98se ICS and a crossover cable. at first my priority was to share internet connection and printer. I have succeded at this and now want to play games between the 2 pc's.
UT,Rune a few old driving games and eventualy Tribes 2 seem to work fine and have been a blast. Now I would like to play NOLF,Delta Force Land Warrior,Delta Force 2 and Quake 3 not because they will be any better but because they havent worked yet and are frustrating me.
NOLF starts out fine but then kicks one of the pc's after the two meet up or if I'm very lucky after 10 min.,Deta Force will can not activate on the client comp. and on the host comp it will fire up sometimes and other times get kicked to the desktop at insertion. on the occasion that it did start up the client comp does not find the server.
since I am not buying multiple copies of these games they are either cracked or running backup disks.
I forget exactly what Q3 did but it didnt work either.
Are my problems from the backed up disks, do I need a router? I will not be adding any more pc's so dont want to buy one if I dont have to since I would rather start saving for a video card or whatever.
Both pc's are pretty similar. P3700@800/cel2533@800 256mb ram both on 440bx motherboards. only on is currently running win98se which I understood to be OK.
any help or similar experience would be appreciated. If those games are just buggy on LAN what are some good ones?

yes, I wasnt sure if it should be the default protocol but I tried that too and at least in DF it made no difference though I can get that to start up pretty regularly now the client still doesnt find the server.
