They are both old really. I am willing to bet most people will say Splinter Cell though.

They both came out about the same time...SC in February 2003 and RS in March 2003.

Both games are completely different and worth playing, IMHO.

Both have newer versions out or coming out too though. CT might be a lot more improved than R6:3 though.

True.

But the OP will unlikely enjoy the newer versions if he doesn't care for the original SC and R6: Raven Shield...and getting a free copy of the games is hard to beat.

I'm interested in a good storyline with a lot of "sneaking around", not just "blowing things up"...

I didn't like Rainbow 6 because your teammates are as dumb as bricks. No wait, bricks actually move when you run into them... If you find yourself liking the R6 game style but the horrible ai/graphics, so for SWAT 4. It just came out and it rocks. Also, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is a good sequel to the first that's really improved but still old and cheap if you wanna get that.

Splinter Cell is exactly what you want. SWAT 4 could be too, the point is to save the hostages without killing the suspects if at all possible. You don't just go in guns blazing, you have to use some better tactics to get them to surrender.
