What do you think? And why does it have the best graphics? Geometry, textures, HDR, etc.

I vote for Far Cry with HDR. Jawdropping lighting effects with the tone mapping.

( I know this has probably been posted before but things change with patches, etc. )

FEAR, FC, D3, HL's LC, 'Riddick' . . .

then Serious Sam2, Painkiller/BOoH, DE:IW, Thief-DS, Max Payne:FoMP

. . . a rough order of the games - in GFX ranking order - i played over the last 2-3 years.

this man speaks the truth...

i think F.E.A.R is the most demanding atm...maybe when a card comes out that can smack that game around like a little b!tch it'll be even more beautiful.

I think FEAR is the most realistic looking with the shadowing and lighting effects. The water in it doesn't look too great to me though.

It's probably still Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for me. The HDR and parallax mapping effects combined with the excellent level design have kept it at the top since its release. I haven't tried Far Cry with the extended content update yet though.

Meh... it's ok... still can't hide the low resolution textures on people's clothing. Models need A LOT more polygons to be "cinematic quality."

Actually looks pretty impressive to me. I'm going to download it one of these days.

I'm gonna have to disagree on the lighting thing, I think F.E.A.R. has better shadows and lighting effects than Doom 3 and thats not even counting volumetric lighting and soft shadows.

Half-Life 2= Water.

The reason the clothing textures are low is because HL2 uses one texture map for the face, and one texture map for the clothes. The clothes are already at 2048x2048, and DX9 cards can't handle more than that for textures. They upped the face textures to 2048x2048 (teh max), but the clothes can't really be fixed.

I'm still extremely impressed by Far Cry...that game came out a year and a half ago and was way before it's time. IMO I was more impressed by the graphics in it than HL2. Doom 3 has awesome graphics too. Have not had a chance to play FEAR, but the graphics look pretty awesome in it as well.

Flaw inherent in the system, eh? There is nothing stoping them from using multiple textures for the cloathing (one for the shirt, one for the pants, etc...)

Same for me. I think FarCry's graphics (mainly the amazing outdoor scenes, of which there are plenty) impressed me more than both HL2 and Doom 3. I also haven't played FEAR yet except for a little of the demo, so I don't have an opinion on it yet (the slow performance turned me off a bit).

Edit: Honorable mention also goes to Painkiller even though it's been ages since I've played it (I really should reinstall it), I remember being very impressed with the quality of graphics and how well the demo ran on my 9700 Pro at the time.

X3 comes pretty close to movie-quality visuals. Of course, that's much easier to do with ships/stations/planets than with organic stuff like plants and animals.
