Which game console should I get?

Sure, if he only wants to play RPGs. And then you might as well say PS2, because that not only gives you access to Square-Enix's SNES games, but also all of the PS1 and PS2 RPGs released since then.

Really, is it that hard for you to admit that the Xbox 360 clearly meets the OP's needs the best? 😕
 
I would go with the console that has the largets amount of vocal fans. Ignore any reasearch, features, or games that are unique to that platform that you may enjoy most.

Would you agree that more newer games, on both systems, may be 1080P native? Also, using your C0D4 example...does the PC version offer higher resolutions? If so, why wouldn't the console versions...or am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing something... You won't notice a drop because the games are not being rendered at 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, but either 720p (1280x720) or lower in the internal frame buffer. They are then unscaled to fit properly on your display depending on what you have your console set to display. So, there is absolutely no reason for their to be a performance difference. With a PC when you change the resolution of a game, you actually change the resolution the game is rendered at. This is why you incur a performance hit with changing resolutions on a PC and not on a console.

At the end of the day, the fact remains that the vast majority of console games for either PS3 or 360 are not being rendered at 1080p regardless of what you set your console settings to. Some people don't notice/care. However, as far as comparing PS3 to 360 it is a moot point because developers for both platforms do it regardless of any claims of native 1080p ability on the part of the console manufacturers.

IMO, the consoles themselves are fairly equal in terms of hardware, with PS3 getting the nod for the built in Blu-ray player. You should decide on the console that best meets your needs in terms of what you want to do with it, and not based on any hardware specs or supposed image quality superiority. If you truly are looking for the best IQ a high end PC still buries them both, but at a higher cost.

Just as a side note to this... The 360 Elite comes with the aforementioned audio dongle, HDMI cable, and component dongle. Figured I'd mention this because the next question after "which console do I get?" is "what's the difference between the Xbox 360 Arcade, Pro, and Elite?", which most people think (erroneously) is just the HD size. Given that that the HDMI kit is $50 by itself it's worth knowing IMO.

Good point. Being able to mimic the functionality of the A/V cables that come with the elite for the $5 it'd cost you to get an HDMI cable at Monoprice is also important to know. 😉

I think you should just buy whatever console this guy thinks you should, because he has offered so much information in the way of "reasearch", features, and games that are unique to the platform that you may enjoy most.

Sorry, long day and I mistyped research and largest. Point is plenty information out there and usually these turn into flames from fan boys on all sides

All 3 have advantages over each other, and what wasn't already said here can be found in the multitude of other threads on the exact same subject on this forum or any other.

Example, do you have kids? Would you find value in HD Movie Content? Do any of your friends have the same platform? Do you need wireless? What is your total budget? and etc.

The only information provided, which I admit this poster actually had one more than usual, was "I prefer mature games." With only that information he needs to look at Xbox or PS3, but simply browsing other threads he could have found that same information.
 
I've had all 3 consoles and played most of the hot exclusives for all of them. When it's all said and done, if you've got an HDTV then get a PS3. If not then get a Wii. 360 is a lot of fun on single player but LIVE is just a fucking joke. The service itself works great but the cracked voice brigade drives me mental.
 
Go play around with a PS3 and 360 and choose whichever you like more. My PS3 gets a TON more play than my 360, but I'm one of the few who prefer the PS3 controller over the 360. I also don't play online at all, and have an older 360 that is loud as hell.

I'm the opposite, but for me a big part of it is a large number of my friends have 360's and play on Live all the time. Live is really what makes the 360 my favorite over the PS3, it's just so well implemented. I'm yet to get an online game for the PS3 to really get a feel for how far Sony has come with the PSN.

For me the $40/year for Xbox Live is well worth it, however I can see how that would deter people who don't play online as much.

But yes play with both and see which one gives you the better "Gaming Experience."
